Football competition :
Under the motto ‘Sport brings people and cultures together’, the City of Rheine’s Immigrant Advice and Support Team and the charity ‘Grace to Grace e. V.’ are hosting a special event on Saturday 29 August 2026, starting at 10.00 am.
The programme at the Emsland Gymnasium sports ground (Bühnenstraße 130, 48431 Rheine) includes a recreational football tournament and a colourful family festival.
Football is a language that connects people all over the world. That is why the sport is particularly well-suited to deepening existing relationships and facilitating new encounters between immigrants and local residents. Playing sport together is intended to break down barriers and promote exchange and a sense of community. Both on and off the pitch, the focus is on fair play, respect and interactions on an equal footing.
The event is open to all football enthusiasts aged between 16 and 40.
There’s plenty on offer off the pitch too. The family festival is aimed at visitors of all ages. Guests can look forward to African specialities as well as other food and drink. For children, there’s a varied programme featuring games and face painting.
The event is sponsored by the Steinfurt District Municipal Integration Centre. The organising team is looking forward to welcoming lots of guests, exciting matches and a cheerful festival celebrating diversity and togetherness. Admission for spectators is free. Teams can register online only at www.rheine.de/fussballturnier2026 until 15 August 2026. The entry fee is 40 euros per team.
